I am taking a summer class at Goucher College in a week. It is located at northern Baltimore directly south of I-695. Now I live in southern PA and have driven to Baltimore many times but never during rush hour. The class starts at 8:30 and ends at 4:30 or so. I am wondering what would be the best way to drive, take 15 south into Frederick and then 70 east onto 695 and then north on that. Or I could take 140 out of Emmitsburg through Westminster and hope onto 795 and then 695. Any help would be appreciated... thankfully the class is only a week long, I just really don't want to get a hotel or anything.

I would recommend the 795 to 695 route. Driving from Frederick on 70 towards Baltimore is a nightmare during rush hour. At least when you get on 695, you'll be going north, so you'll be going against traffic in the morning, but it's still not exactly pleasant to sit on the 70 bottleneck.

kami,
the 795 corridor has become very congested because of all the development that has went on in the Owings Mills and surrounding areas. a huge majority of folks on 795 are heading to 695 to be able to access 83 southbound into baltimore city.

my husband drives 83 south from pa to catonsville, md. every day. he leaves at 5:15. he has to be at work at 6:30. traffic is already building up at the 695/83 interchange split by the time he passes that location at 6:00.

not sure of where you're coming from, but whichever way you choose, 15 or 83 south, to be on campus at 8:15/8:30 at goucher, i would leave at 6:30. ***

***i'm basing that figure on you crossing the pa/md border at 6:30. however far away you live from the pa/md border, whether you choose 15 or 83, add that time. so, if you're 15 minutes away from 83 at the md/pa border, then leave your house at 6:15.

hope this helps.
