hi,

me, my husband n our 1yr old are moving to Maryland in 20days .My husband's work place is in columbia,MD.I was searching for some rental apartments near columbia but found it very expensive and not that safe(from the apartment reviews) and also we want a place that's nearby to his office.

Can anybody plz suggest some nice apartments which are bit inexpensive and safe ?

thanks a lot ..

Agreed, there are safe places in Elkridge, also, you may want to look at Ellicott City (though be careful, there are some pockets of bad neighborhoods there too).

I have lived with my husband for a year now in the Kings Dominion Apartment complex in Columbia, and I have always felt safe. We have a dog (the apartment complex is pet friendly), and I walk him around the neighborhood all the time. The area is surrounded by single family homes, is right near the park and community pool, is quiet, and there are always people out jogging or walking their pets. For Columbia, I thought their prices were ok (probably around $900-$1000 a mo for a 1 bedroom, $1250 for a 2 bedroom). From here you can also walk to the shopping center. I've really enjoyed my experience here and the neighbors, which have all been friendly. Their website is www.edenbrookapt.com.

If this is still out of your price range, I agree with the others that Elkridge and Ellicott City are good options. There are also parts of Laurel that are nice and inexpensive, but check out the neighborhoods before chosing this area.

Good luck in your search!

Is there actually a way to find out crime stats in areas? The police will not officially tell you but they have been known to hint on the safe/nonsafe areas. How can we get stats before moving. Oh and thanks to those who responded above---these comments are helpful to me as well.

This information has been useful to me. I am considering relocating to Maryland as well but we're having a hard time finding apartments in Elkridge closer to Ellicott City. I don't really like the Route 1 area and there are not many apartments near 103.
