I just moved to Maryland. I work in Baltimore and my husband work in DC (Children's National Medical Center). Where should I live between these points? If I stay at Columbia, whether my husband go to work by bus or metro? Are there any private bus?

Find the MARC map and look at the different stations along that rail line. You can also look at the MTA map to see bus routes to DC from various cities.

My general advice is do not 'split' the commute living halfway between one city or the other. Live so that one of you has an easier commute and the other the longer one. That way one person is not tired at the end of the day from travel and can take care of things like cleaning, groceries, and cooking. It's a fair trade. Otherwise you both come home tired and cranky and not interested in doing the other things necessary to keep a house running. If you have children (or plan on having children) it is also easier for one of you to get home in an emergency if you don't have a huge commute.
