Does anyone have any opinions to share about NE? It seems like a really nice place...small town, seems to be safe/good schools, etc.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Is North East that unknown? I'm thinking that could be a bonus. LOL

Go onto the SEARCH link on top of this page and type in North East, MD. There are some threads.
Unfortunately, I don't know the area well so I can't really give you advice but I have not heard anything bad if that helps.

We moved to North East MD from Philadelphia suburbs about 2 years ago. We loved our old town so it was quite a change but if you want to be near water, enjoy meeting other people who have come here to enjoy boating and the outdoors, this is the place. North East, the town, is adorable and getting better every day. The people are friendly and you'll be amazed how many people you meet that have crossed the PA and NJ borders to move here after considering the New Jersey shore or other areas. Since North East is at the top of the Bay, you're still in commuting distance to Philadelphia, Wilmington and Baltimore. But how many people can live near the water or just go out to local spots and watch the boat activity, see Bald Eagles and Blue Heron as part of their every day life? If you're a golfer, you've got tons to choose from. And new homes coming into the area are improving educational and cultural choices and new community involvement. We think a lot of people will have wished they had invested in North East in 2009 when it was still affordable.

Thank you so much for your reply! What were some of the things you had to get used to? NE seems like a small town type of place which I like. And I love all of the points you made. My concern is we aren't going to be able to move until next summer so I am hoping the market doesn't go up before then.

We have friends who bought a brand new 4 BR house there on almost an acre 6 years ago for $175K. Now most of the new houses seem to start at the high $200K or low $300K. I'd love to find out when a new development is in the works BEFORE the public announcement. That's when prices are usually at their lowest.
