I'm in the very early stages of planning my move back to the DC area (currently in HdG, probably going back to work in Bethesda). We were thinking of Columbia as DH could keep his job in Baltimore. I'm vaguely familiar with Columbia, know the good areas and the basic concept. So my questions are just how imposing is the CA? I'm not a huge fan of HOAs, but wondering if the CA is less imposing b/c it governs more folks. Or is it just a huge community of HOAness? My husband is a foreman with company vehicle, and we are very energy conscious. I'd hate to say suburban homesteaders, as we aren't that bad LOL But we do like to garden (our veggie garden is 24x32'), etc.

Assuming we are in a SFH, my specific questions/concerns:
(1) Where will DH be able to park the company truck? Will it be banned from the driveway or street as it was in our last HOA?
(2) Can we have our veggie garden?
(3) Can we line dry our clothes?
(4) Can we keep chickens? (assume a very tasteful coop that meets CA shed approvals, this is an example)

You might be able to have a vegetable garden but CA is very very very strict, probably a no for everythng esle. I'm know it's definate no for the chickens and line dry. CA is VERY imposing.
