In 2011, Maryland gave the company a $9.5 million loan when Bechtel was considering moving out of the state. One key condition for the loan, which was to be paid out over seven years, was that the company would keep at least 1,250 positions from its power division in Frederick through 2018. Barely a month after the loan agreement was announced, the company moved 625 jobs to Reston Town Center. At the time, Virginia plied the company with its own deal, delivering $6.5 million in grants.
Not that I am a fan of MD's current administration, but this is some shady **** on the part of this company. I don't think that any government should be using taxpayer money to bribe businesses to stay.

This is really going to be felt in Frederick.

VA is cleaning MD's clock in economic development.

What do liberals have to do with this? People don't tend to discuss economic stuff on these forums much from what I can tell. I don't think it has anything to do with how people vote.

Since Bechtel already has offices in Reston and Tyson's Corner, they likely decided to just consolidate their operations there. I doubt politics played a huge role in their decision making process.

If politics really played a role in closing their Frederick office they would have also moved their corporate headquarters from the San Francisco Bay Area into somewhere like Texas or Georgia a long time ago. But hey if it supports your little fantasy world, by all means.
