I just checked the howard county public school website.
There are two high schools in Columbia: wilde lake high and oakland mills high. After 2005, the SAT scores decrease. The participation rate drops dramatically from 68% to 62% last year. Could anyone explain what had happened?

Just want to make sure you realize that the schools are all county-based and attendance might have nothing to do with living in a particular city or town. You can live in Columbia and attend Ellicott City or Clarksville schools, and you can live outside of Columbia and attend a school located in Columbia. A lot of people coming from other states have a hard time understanding how this works. You need to check the school system website for a particular address to see which school district you are in.

I don't know why the SAT scores would have dropped so much after 2005. Because of their demographics, Wilde Lake and Oakland Mills are often ranked in the lower half of the county on test scores, but I don't recall any redistricting that would have caused a change in the past couple of years.

BTW, there are other high schools in Columbia other than WL and OM. There's also Long Reach, Hammond, and Atholton.

i think in some parts of columbia kids go to Howard and even long reach high aswell. from living here all my life and knowing the areas around hoco, i wouldnt let my kids go to oakland mills or wilde lake either one because of the section 8 problems over there. i would look into trying to get them into a ellicott city school or the new marriots ridge high school. top 3 would be 1.) Marriots ridge 2.) Cenntennial 3.) river hill/ glenelg tie i would say. just my 2 cents.
