What is up with lack of awesome marching bands? We went to the Gaithersburg parade and one school (Watkins Mill) had like, 20 kids in it!! What's the deal? Lack of interest? Money?

I mean, I know the marching bands won't be anything like the ones of the midwest, but sheesh!

Many of Maryland's schools have good marching band programs. Allegany HS and Urbana HS jump to mind as competitive bands in their class.

You must have missed something.

I saw way more than that on Diamond Ave.

You did?? Really?? I mean, the biggest school was Clarksburg.. but their marching was less than fabulous....

I guess my standards are too high lol

I've never seen Urbana though, maybe there's hope in Frederick Co.. not suprising since it's a bit more rural.

My high school (Patuxent) had a really solid marching band, placed high in TOBs...

I was in that parade. I march for Rockville High School. And believe it not not we are on of the top marching bands in the county, MoCo and to some extent most of suburban MD has very little interest in Marching, don't know why.

Yeah I think there is just a big different between marching in the midwest and here. My husband came from a band of 200 and my school had similiar program (I wasn't part of band though..) so it's just a difference in interest evidently.

I was in a marching band in high school in PA.

Does the DC/MD region have calvacades where bands compete? If so, where might I find info on those?
