Im from the area, went to one of the schools that had a "bad image" because it was majority black, I lived in one of the most "suburban" middle class neighborhoods. I live in the DC Area now, they arent very friendly up here either...Just becuase its a smaller city doesnt mean people are going to befriend you. There are some neighborhoods I would avoid, such as Downtown or the outskirts of Downtown in East or West Salisbury, further out are better. North Salisbury is nice as well.
There are several neighborhoods that have beautiful homes that range from the high 200s/low300s to the 500/600s Hunting park, Tony Tank, Rustic Acres, Nithsdale/West Nithsdale/Nithsdale highlands, Colbourne Woods, Nutters Crossing, Harbor Pointe, Riverside, and Cotton Patch/Bell Island are a few
Crime is higher because it is a smaller city, so you have to take the good and the bad
For the younger generation, it isnt much to do. The Centre at Salisbury is the only place to hang out which is just about it until Ocean City opens back up. There are also 20 and under clubs, for the 21 and over u have the Fountains or Mojos and other bars since Salisbury University is nearby.

I dont know much abuot Seaford as that is about 30-40 min north in Delaware. I have heard that it isnt much to do in Seaford except come to Salisbury for fun, shopping and entertainment.
Apartmetns in Salisbury that are good are Mill Pond Village, Runaway Bay, College Lane, Pond's Edge in Delmar, I will even go on a limb and say Parkwood Apartments and Tide Mill are good. Most apartments are in South Salisbury since it is close to the Universitiy and Rt 13 Business.

The Greens at Schumaker Pond aren't bad apartments either. When we were getting our apartment, we were torn between them and Mill Pond. We ultimately went with Mill Pond since they had some sort of rent discount incentive with my employer.
Seaford is... eh. It's my hometown but I wouldn't move back even if I were paid to. It's really gone downhill ever since Dupont sold their plant to Koch and laid off most of their workers. It's an okay place to live when you consider the towns around it, but there are definitely better places out there.

Things have not gotten better since 2011. We have speed cameras out the yahoo, putting in red light cameras, crime and drugs are on the rise. We have state, county and local police depts and you still can be a victim, just like anywhere else. We have a gay mayor, if that matters to anyone. More rental properties than owned. And the look and crime that goes with it. We have a small bus service and several cab companies. Gangs and police in schools. Private schools are available. Medical care is mediocre at best. Downtown is a hollow shell. Lack of decent paying jobs, if you can find one. A half hour from Ocean City, Md., so tourists barrel through town and act stupid. Mall is north of town. But we do have plenty of banks, car dealers, fast food joints. Not much in the way of entertainment. A redneck and good ole boy area. Unsupervised children roam the city (mostly minorities). But we do have a new fire boat.

Sorry to poke holes in this... But it needed to be done...
Speed Cameras and Red Light Cameras are no different there than here in PG County. Its creating revenue for the city and county. Crime is everywhere, thing is Salisbury crime has pockets. Most are around the Smith Street, Church Street, Booth Street, and Pemberton Areas. Further out in the "suburbs" are nicer Especially out near the Nanticoke Road area where home value from 200-500k even upper 600k and Riverside area. Even East Salisbury area Parker Road Kilburnie area is pretty good.
Rental Properties are mostly in one section of the city, Mainly South Salisbury and West Salisbury. Other than that, there are a lot of homeowners in the city.
Police are going to be in schools...They have been assigned SROs (School Resource Officers) since I was in HS and I graduated in 2000 from the so called "hood high school" because it was majority black then and almost all black now.
Gangs are prevelant in Salisbury, its a city, most are transplants from Baltimore/DC/Philly/Norfolk, more of Baltimore and DC so they will have them here. Not to mention ECI which is a State Prison 20-30 min from town has most of the gangs in the area.
Entertainment varies on who u ask. For the younger crowd, the only entertainment is the Centre at Salisbury, once it closes at night then not much but your house parties etc. For adults its Brew River, Shays Pub, Mojos, Monkey Barrel, Fountains, etc.
For families you have Crown Sports Center, Delmarva Shorebirds, YMCA, and of course the Regal Cinemas. There are also various parks throughout the city.
The job market is bad, if you dont work for the Fed, State, City, County, PRMC, Perdue, or Salisbury University then it is scarce. There are a few job in the Industrial park.
PRMC is named one of the best Regional Hospitals by US World and News. Downtown has been hollow and they are trying their best to revitalize it with lofts, condos, and bringing businesses down there and also generate nightlife down there.
Good Ole Boy area is somewhat gone now, especially with Davis Ruark gone, Mayor Tilghman gone, and various Public leaders gone from office.
Unsupervised children are of all races, not minorities. Youth on probation in the area are white, Hispanic, and African American. Do a good job parenting so that wont happen.
OC tourists come through to mostly shop and stay at a hotel, not cause trouble. If that was the case then Salisbury University and UMES students would just be terrible then.
The bus system is pretty good, and getting extensive. That is pretty much it

I read a lot of these comments and get quite a kick out of them. "People are so unfriendly, nobody waves to me". Really?? Some of you sound like toddlers. No one is required to talk to you. No matter where you live some are rude and some are nice. That's called life. Please stop using these forums as a sounding board for your narrow minded, bigoted, ignorant view points. And for those asking the questions, find out if you like a specific area on your own. What works for one doesn't always work for another.

Salisbury is a hole. Used to be nice and now is overrun with minorities who couldn't care less. It's a hole.
