Hagerstown...I was just viewing some photos of the city from skyscraperforum.com, and WOW....love the row houses, and density of the housing...houses close to the sidewalks, etc.

How are those neighborhoods for living? How are the prices - probably low...but is it also reasonably safe?

Is that typical of Maryland towns? It seems like Baltimore and Annapolis are equally impressively dense and walkable and pedestrian-friendly as well...I mean assuming the photos of Hagertown is accurate...unless that is the old decaying part, and it's actually suburban-like sprawl with chains just outside of there?

Never heard of that website, so not sure what photos are shown.

I've always thought Hagerstown had a lot of neat and different types of buildings and houses. If I ever have a little extra money I would buy something in town and fix it up. There is a lot of potential there.

There are nice neighborhoods and ones that are not quite as well kept/a little rough. Yes, the density of housing in parts of the city is heavy, especially in areas east and west of the downtown.

Sorry, it's skyscraperCITY.com....there are a couple similar ones.

Here is a thread with GORGEOUS photos of Hagerstown:
Hagerstown, Maryland - SkyscraperCity

Gorgeous if a person likes pedestrian-friendly, condensed, urban conveniences, and the like. It looks like Hagerstown is just filled with character. Kinda surprised me, as I assumed most all small towns were just big lawns, big houses, big roads, and just a lot of freeway and fastfood restaurants everywhere and strip malls. Hagerstown, at least based on those photos, seems to actually offer a city-like existance yet in a smaller town as well.

Check out the link though with all of the photos...curious what a person's comments might be who is more familiar with the city, as I've never personally been there myself.

Yes, Hagerstown definitely has a lot of character. It feels like Baltimore City, yet scaled down to small town friendly feel. The people are very friendly, it's very family oriented, and it almost feels as if it's the people that make the city as it is. I live on the outskirts of city limits and was about to purchase a half acre lot, 4 bedroom home (old but remodeled) for $185,000, in Nov '09. Now I've only passed through Cumberland once or twice, but I think Cumberland has even more character than Hagerstown though.
