There is a hearing this Friday at 1pm in the Joint Hearing room of the Maryland General Assembly. HB 712 if full of arbitrary restrictions, lacking the right for patient cultivation and limiting patients to 2 oz. of medicine a month.

Delegate Cheryl Glenn (District 45, Baltimore City) has JUST introduced legislation that MD Safe Access drafted back in November. It is far superior to Delegate Morhaim's HB 712. There are no arbitrary restrictions. Patients have the right to grow. Caregivers can provide for up to 5 patients. We spent a lot of time putting it together.

What we accomplish as a movement in the next three days may determine the course of medical marijuana in Maryland for years. Please PLEASE take a moment to call the Judiciary and Health & Government Operations Committees, and tell them: "Please co-sponsor HB 1388 introduced by Delegate Cheryl Glenn. I think it is superior in many ways to the proposal made by Dr. Morhaim."

I DID it! I called
Judiciary: (410) 841-3488
Health & Government Operations: (410) 841-3770 and voiced my support. Now I'll spread the word to my family and friends.

BTW, I do not spoke weed or use illegal drugs or even OTC or prescription drugs if I can help it, but I don't think anyone should go to jail for using or selling drugs. Period. I don't want to pay for their jail time, and I think we should help our fellow citizens, not penalize them for having an addiction. I hope this bill at least succeed and we can put an end to the "war" on drugs and try to reverse all the damage it's done to our society.

Thank you so much kinkytoes! If a few more people take your kind of initiative, we just might get this bill through this year! I'll keep you posted on action items as they come.

THIS WEEK:

Despite overwhelming support at the hearing two weeks ago, HB 712 is at risk of dying in committee! The bill needs to be placed into subcommittees to iron out the details before going to a full committee vote.

The Speaker of the House can help push this process along, but we don't have much time to influence him to make it happen!

Please call Speaker Busch TODAY at (410) 841-3800 and ask him to push HB 712 into subcommittee!

You can also e-mail him. Americans for Safe Access has created a handy action link: ASA*:*Online Action Center

DO BOTH!

(and repost this to your social networks, it's the greatest tool we have to spread this message!)
