I am not too familiar with Maryland but it may be necessary for us to move there next year so I have started to look at houses online. We will be moving to Anne Arundel county . I found the website for Tanyard springs and they are exactly what we are looking for . However, everyone I talk to tell me not to move to Glen Burnie. Does Glen Burnie have a bad reputation ?
Thanks

Glen Burnie has already been discussed numerous times in this forum. Please use Search before posting. This is just one of the top 10 posts:
https://www.city-data.com/forum/maryl...en-burnie.html

There is also a separate post about Tanyard Springs community. I live in Glen Burnie myself (renting), but there is not much I can add to what's already been posted in this forum. There are good areas and bad areas and sometimes those are just a couple of blocks apart.

Tanyard Springs community is located further from Glen Burnie downtown and I'm guessing it should be all right, considering the property price level. However, you'll have to co-exist with general Glen Burnie population if you have children and if you'll be shopping here.

If you get a chance, I'd encourage you to stop by Target and Giant stores on Rte 2 in Glen Burnie (just south of 695) and observe the characters shopping there. You'll see that it's quite a diverse population.

I lived in Glen Burnie years ago (apartment) and agree with what jelenap has posted. Though I no longer lived there, stores that I patronize are located on my route to work - Target, Giant and Walmart (before it closed). It was my habit to shop these stores at locations along Crain Highway (Rt 3) in Glen Burnie.

After my car was seriously vandalized while parked for 35 minutes at one of the stores - in broad daylight - I no longer shop at any those locations. For many years, friends had cautioned me not to shop in that area by myself. Frankly, I'm glad no one was left behind to watch the car.
