Hello Everyone,
We are thinking of moving to Kent Island. Just a few questions. What would the commute be to Fort Meade? What are the schools rated? Does it have a small town feel? Would that be a good choice for a family? Any information would be appreciated!

Hi goodday, Can't say enough positive things about KI. Actually, there's a bit of 'last one in' mentality, so maybe I shouldn't sell it too hard...

It's a beautiful place if you like the water or wildlife. It has a small-town feel, but there are a lot more transplants here than you get further into the Eastern Shore, so it's a lot easier imho to integrate into the community. Also, b/c of its proximity to Annapolis, Baltimore and DC, you can escape the small-town when needed.

Negatives? It gets a little sleepy during the Winter perhaps. Some of the population is not year-round, and restaurants and other businesses adjust hours accordingly. But it has everything a family needs.

Your specific questions:

- Commute: see my other post re commuting and bridge.
- Schools: there are good public schools here. I'd do a search based on exactly where you're buying. also, there's a bit of potential splitting / re-districting of schools going on atm, so maybe ask your realtor about that
- Small town feel: see above
- Family: great place for a family imo. Low crime. Very outdoor orientated. Maybe only downside would be the kids complaining of not enough going on depending on where they're coming from. For a very young family (my boat), it's perfect

Good luck!

Thank you very much for all the information on Kent Island! I really appreciate it. It sounds perfect, other than the commute. Thanks again.
