I’ve tried to look for threads on the matter but can’t really find anything specific to my situation. So please bear with me.
I took a job in Reston, VA and currently stay in Gaithersburg, MD. I would like to live close to work but not so close that I am faraway from everything else.
Question is- What is considered the half way point between the 2 cities?
Also if anyone can recommend good apts to look into, that would be great. I moved from the south and the prices I’m seeing are giving me a headache [lol]. I’m used to seeing much lower rent prices. HELPP!!!

Thanks a lot in advance

If you work in Reston, you should look in Northern VA for a place to live. Is there something in Gaithersburg you want to be near? Anyplace I can think of that qualifies as halfway between them would be more expensive than either of them. Pick the one you will go to the most during rush hour, and drive to the other outside of rush hour.

It's cheaper to live in Reston....

Gait' to Reston is not a fun commute; not to bad going, but it's terrible on the return. Learn the backroads from Reston to Georgetown Pike, this way you will bypass the bottle neck of the toll rd/495 intersection.

@ dkf747 -Nothing in particular…I’m just more familiar with that MD area. I hear you on that cos I’ve heard Bethesda mentioned and that area is expensive. I'll look in the NoVa area...
@ tonyc -Yep, heading back is definitely not fun. I’ve been doing it for only 2 weeks and I’m just about sick of it. I’ll try and find a way to learn the back roads for now.

Thanks Guys!!

I used to live in Rockville and commute to Herndon. You can only do it for so long! I have since relocated to Arlington, and the commute is much nicer, but the cost of living in Arlington is much higher than Gaithersburg. A co-worker of mine lived in Frederick, MD and commuted to Herndon every day, I think he took Rt. 15, and although it still took 45 minutes, he was not having to do the 270/495/Toll Road trek, which made the 45 minutes actually tolerable. Frederick MD has very reasonable rentals if you want to stay in MD. But if you want to be in VA, Reston has very reasonable rentals as well. If you don't want to be all the way out in Reston, Falls Church is a good middle point and there are a lot of reasonable rentals there as well.

Post on the Nova forum with what you're looking for (budget, type of neighborhood, etc). People are good about suggesting areas for newcomers to look into!
