Hello everyone,

I'm planning to move my family to Maryland for a new job starting in June (work location is in Ellicott City) and have been looking for a home to rent near there.
I've been browsing these forums for the past few weeks which has been very helpful but was wondering if anyone had some advice as to the different areas in Howard County or close to that area.

I'll be commuting to Ellicott City (close to Columbia) but if I can get a better place outside of there I don't mind a slightly longer commute.
We're looking for a 3+bedroom 2+bath in a nice area for around $2,000.
We have two kids. (one just finishing high school and the other has 1 year left)

Wife and I are both night owls, and like to have somewhat of a nightlife not too far away but want to life in a quiet area.

I'm from the Sacramento area of California by the way (northern California)

Columbia, Ellicott City, Clarksville, Elkridge, Catonsville (no particular order) or try the city but the schools could be an issue in the city. You will be fine, in each of the other cities and could rent an apt or a house. A lot of people regard Hoco, as one of the best counties to live in because of activities and schools. Unless you want some place cheaper then I'm not sure I would move further out unless you really want a more urban atmosphere then perhaps the city or Silver Spring would work.

Good Luck.

Richard, we too are moving from CA to MD probably around June for a new job. Small world. Anyway, good luck.

Thanks for the advice. I think we're going to go with Howard, someplace in Ellicott, Columbia or close by there. Still looking around though.

Good luck to you too Grimstuff. What part of CA are you in, and where in MD are you looking at?
