Even based off of stats Columbia has some good schools, for instance Atholton has some of the highest SAT scores in the area. However, if you are only judging based off of stats, then Columbia will probably never outperform Clarksville and usually not EC because of the apts and overall economic diversity of the area. Test performance tracks pretty closely to income. Which is why Elkridge scores are somewhat lower than other schools with equal amount of diversity in the area. If you look within the scores, almost all the schools perform within a fairly narrow range. White Non FARM students perform roughly the same. School these days, is fairly prescriptive, you need to cover these topics in Q1, use these text, etc... it is all county wide.

Personally, I like looking at when like for like students are not within a narrow range of each other. To me that tells me something, perhaps there math or science program is not as strong or that they take away time from these programs to enhance reading scores.

It is one thing to claim that certain towns have good schools, it is another to say that other towns (Columbia) has bad schools (or nothing to offer as far as schools go). Which is why, when people emphasize the need to have the absolutely best schools, based off MSA then I usually suggest Clarksville, because there are limited schools and it has a less disperse income range.

I think MSA stats is only one measure of a school and above average to average scores definitely does not make a school bad as great scores does not necessarily make it good.
