We are moving down in July and need to find a 2 br. apartment, condo or house to rent that is pet friendly. I started checking into prices online and can't seem to find anything reasonable in or near Havre De Grace. Can anybody direct me to decent areas there that are affordable, or possibly to other towns within a 45 minute drive to Havre De Grace? We don't know much about any of the towns down there, being from upstate PA, and could really use some help! Thanks in advance.

Try going north to Cecil County. I've never looked into rent there, but I imagine it has to be cheaper. Here are some town names, but also check a map...Perryville, Northeast, Rising Sun, Elkton.

You might...and I emphasize MIGHT... find cheaper rent south of HgG on the Route 40 corridor (Aberdeen, Edgewood), but the neighborhoods would likely be questionable. I would try north first.

Another option, but a further drive, would be in southern York Co., PA. (Delta)

Thanks HokieJane. Anything within a 45 minute drive would be fine, including the PA side. Most people seem to say that heading south the neighborhoods can become an issue, so if that is the case we would rather stay to the north. Any other insight would be much appreciated.

What do you consider "affordable"? Its a very vague term. For example, I moved up from the DC area and am living in a 2 bedroom rental with my cats in Riverside/Belcamp. Its 10-15 mins from Havre de Grace (in fact, we just closed on our house in Havre de Grace today ) Where I came from, 2 bedrooms rent for $1200-1500, so $950 is great.

Here is my place (for another 2 weeks until we move)

Congrats on your closing! We were hoping to avoid the $1000-$1400 range that seems pretty common as I look at the online apartments. Ideally, it would be between $650 and $800, if that is even possible for something that is not horrendous. Up in NEPA $650 goes a long way. We can swing more, but figured if we got a little farther out in the country we might be able to find something a little cheaper. In the end though, we will do what we have to, because we have to move down no matter what.

Default Help

I would really look into Chester or Lancaster County. MD is an expensive state to live in. More for your money in PA. I also like Port Deposit. I feel it is a town on the verge of the next big thing.

Thanks NLOL, I have started checking into southern PA as well. Port Deposit would be great (location wise), can you tell me a little more about it?

Yeah, with those prices, you've chosen the wrong state to come to... Even up north may be a MAYBE. I like most of Havre de Grace, but I just know about houses for sale, not rent. Good luck!

Thanks everyone, I took a trip down this past weekend and checked out a good portion of the area. I may have more questions, but now i can at least be specific about towns and topics. I appreciate all your help.

This past weekend, the LPGA tournament was played in the outskirts of Havre de Grace at Bulle Rock. Things may have been a little busier than usual with more traffic around.
