I'm a 27-yr-old single woman and I've lived in Baltimore since graduating college, in a few different neighborhoods. I've had some fun here but I just got a pretty good job offer in Annapolis (more $, natural next step for me).

Problem is I don't really want to deal with the Baltimore-->Annapolis commute every day in order to make this happen. I can try it at first but I really prefer to live close to work and not spend my life stuck in traffic. So I'm thinking about whether I could/should live in Annapolis. I love the coastal/water aspect of Annapolis and the historic charm and I wouldn't mind getting away from some of the Baltimore's depressing crime, poverty, and decay.

But Annapolis looks to me as maybe not a good place for a younger single woman to be. It seems to be pretty wealthy, conservative and maybe sorta uptight. These are just superficial observations; maybe untrue. I wouldn't describe myself as a natural urbanite and I'm getting old enough where I'm outgrowing the bar scene, but I don't want to put myself in a situation where I'm in a total minority as young, liberal, single woman. Are there ecletic neighborhoods at all where younger people (past college age) could be comfortable, not just families with dogs & babies? And how about people on the lower end of the income scale? (I would make 45K in the new job)

We live in Annapolis and find it quite liberal. Our neighborhood has several single females living here and working in various places in Maryland. Many of the single women I have met here are about 28-35. The lady that lives in the condo next door is about 55 and the one across the hall is retired and now a boat captain. You budget is a bit low for some areas of Annapolis and the rent is probably higher here than what you are used to paying. But, I think you could make it here living frugally for a while.

Beilart, would you mind telling me which neighborhood you live in? Or at least a general idea?

I guess what I'm trying to figure out mostly is whether Annapolis has any funkiness to it.

There are a variety of condo/apt/TH rentals mostly from $1000 to $1,500 which is probably higher than you were paying. Some complexes have singles or couples buildings separate from family buildings. If you like historic right in downtown Annapolis, PM me and I can give you some local rental contacts.
