My wife and I are considering a move here from TN. What is this area/side of town like? Should we be worried? I will frequently be gone most nights for work and she will be in the condo(secured building) alone with the dogs, potentially having to take them out at night alone. Should this be an issue?

Personally, that wouldn't be a section of the city where I would purchase a condo. They are in an industrial section of the city, and bordered by a few cemetaries (? sp). The bordering residential neighborhoods are mostly working class.

We are renting only not buying(the reason for renting not buying is as you described). We spent an extra day in downtown and driving around the condo. Other than normal city style housing we didnt really see anything that raised our brows. We are both from working class that have just now upgraded

I hear you about working class as I was raised in one of Worcester's three deckers. You might want to Google crime in the Fremont street area. Within the past year there have been shootings and crack/coke distribution arrests in the immediate area. Good luck with your move.

I was driving in Worcester today & noticed the Fremont street sign as I was passing through. I thought I had seen a post here in city-data. That area gets a negatory from me. I wouldn't want to live near there. Keep looking!

I had family who lived in a 3 family on Douglas Street off Cambridge St. that moved out because it was getting too bad around there. They moved to an apartment on Grafton Street.

I work in Worc a lot and have worked in that complex for some very nice people. I would not want to live on the first floor though. Also dont like the idea of a women having to go outside there alone at night on a schedule even with a poodle or any K9. I would suggest Salisbury West or Salisbury Green. There is Sunderland Heights or Woods and Redwood Hills on Sunderland Rd. that seem decent. Good luck
