Are there any neighborhoods in Hingham to avoid as a young down to earth family? Or neighborhoods to look for?

I don't think there are any neighborhoods to avoid in Hingham--at least there aren't any "seedy" parts of town. The only neighborhoods I've heard referred to as an actual "neighborhood" is Crow's Point and Liberty Pole. There are other areas (around Hingham Center, near Queen Anne's Corner and near the Derby Street Shops), but I don't know if those neighborhoods have names.

What to look for depends on your priorities. We wanted to be near the water, so we looked at homes on Crow's Point (commute would be via boat). If you'd rather be closer to the Expressway, then you'd look in West Hingham. If you wanted to be close to the train, you'd look closer to Bare Cove, etc.

Stay away from Nutty Hill and Fottler Rd, the "slums" of Hingham, or so I hear. This was about 15 years ago, so I don't know if it's changed much since then. But Nutty Hill still has a bunch of 2-family house.

Horror of horrors. There are 2-family houses all over the "slum" towns of Newton and Belmont. I live in one.

Did you notice the OP is looking for "down to earth"?

LOL. The "slums of Hingham" quote I heard from a native of Hingham. Anyway, it's pretty silly that any part of Hingham would be considered "slums", but it matters to some pretentious people--which you might find a greater proportion of in this town.

True. What an absurd quote.

Crow Point used to be considered the slums now it's hot property. Any part of Hingham is nice to anyone who doesn't live in Hingham, it's only those who live in town who make the distinctions of what is the most desirable.
