Of all that I have been to over the years, I would pick Chatham. Charming to no end, just felt good. Depends on your requirements, as each town has its pros and cons, of course.

Great photos. But this question is like asking "what's the best wine"? There is no "one" that is perfect for everything but it sure is fun to explore the options to get an answer to the question. ;-)

I prefer the outer Cape. It has more nature, smaller towns, more entertainment in places like Provincetown, and the best beaches. Welfleet has my favorite beaches on the Cape. I love the nature trails through the marshland, pney woods, and dunes on the bay shore side. I love Marconi Beach with it's direct ocean facing access and sand bluffed lined beaches. There are also warmer fresh water ponds to swim in. Welfleet is a cute small town, a nice harbor for boating, and great seafood restaurants. It's like Cape Cod the way it was meant to be without the traffic, overdevelopment and more in it's natural state with gorgeous scenery.

I voted for Wellfleet (misspelled on the survey list, by the way :-) ). Of course, I might be prejudiced. Just retired today as her chief of police...

Nice folks. Excellent public services, quite safe, beautiful scenery and great beaches. A tad crowded in the summer perhaps. Such is life.

I agree with Beachcomber that it's like naming THE best wine. Too many great possibilities to name one. This is really a win-win-win-etc. situation.

Let's see, I like the one beach in Chatham with the very gradual drop-off so you can wade out a long way (although I might have to rethink this if all those great whites really have staked out turf around Chatham), and found it to be a nice hint of getting away from it all just outside of town one time when I sailed across the sand flats to Monomoy Island. But then, there's a beach in Falmouth where you can go out a long way, and then those dunes in Truro are nice, as well as the spot on the bay side where you can spend some time on a nice white beach with clear water, nice and natural, and still get a view of P-Town across the water.

There's no way really to go wrong here, but I decided that if I had to make a choice, I'd go with Sandwich. Those flats, shown partly in the picture in the OP, have a wide-open appeal, and I like the town itself because it's not completely touristy. Sandwich is a lot like a regular real town, that just happens to be surrounded by the beauty and outdoor recreation possibilities of Cape Cod.
