Acton and Westford are larger, affluent suburbs, spread out around town centers. Excellent school systems. Acton has more apartments available for rent of the three towns. Littleton is a former farm town, much smaller, in the middle of Westford and Acton. It's a lovely, quiet town with lots of open space. Modest (for the area) housing around Long Lake, former summer colony. Excellent schools and town spirit.
All three are very quiet, have beautiful areas, and are very close to major commuting routes to Boston and New Hampshire. All three are very good places to live, especially if you have kids.
And you must go to Kimball's Farm, for ice cream. It's a local treasure on the Westford/Littleton line.
Good fortune on your visit to my area!
A P.S.
In case you don't know, the three towns are about 30 miles northwest of Cambridge, and about another five miles northwest into Boston. Easy to get to if you don't drive during the business rush hours. New Hampshire is about 21 miles north on the highway.
