Typically you apply in the state your job was based in.

This is what I don't understnad about your situation. As others have said, taxes are due in the state in which the wages were earned. Did you travel at all in your job, perhaps doing calls in both stats? If you only worked in CT, then that is the only state for which there should have been withholding. Also note there has been a lot of confusion on this point with the pandemic. If you worked from home during the pandemic as a technical matter taxes would have neem due in MA, not CT. But if your employer has been withholding for both states all along and you don't perform work in both states....that I can't explain.

According to the following guidance from the CT Dept of Labor, if you work in CT but live elsewhere you can file out of state but the unemployment is paid by CT through an interstate agreement: http://www.ctdol.state.ct.us/progsup...ide/uc-288.pdf. See page 5, "If You Live or Move Outside of Connecticut." So it could be that both of you could have filed in MA, it's just that your employer was aware of the interstate agreement and both are actually being paid by CT.
