My investment home in Malden requires windows replacement. I am surprised at the quotes that I am receiving for window replacement! I just want standard windows. Does anyone have contacts of companies/people who can give me a fair quote?

Why not learn something new, $ave money, and do it yourself with the help of videos.

you can do this.

I wish I can do it:-) But I am not good at such skills. I tried in the past seeing videos but unfortunately I was not successful. It was too much stress too. I would rather pay and get the job done. But I am hoping I would receive a fair quote.

How many windows and what kind of prices are you getting?

I second that. What are you seeing for pricing?

I’ve used C&D window replacement for a few windows, and will likely use them in the spring to replace 8 windows. I’m a DIYer by heart, but I thought the cost was reasonable over what I would have paid for the windows and then the time/expense to install. I did do my own interior trim though.

Windows are definitely an EXPENSIVE project and the cost can vary a lot. Sometimes the price difference is due to the labor cost and sometimes it's a difference in the cost of materials. The cost of the windows themselves can vary a lot due to the brand, style, size, and the materials they're made of. For example, wood frame windows are far more expensive than vinyl windows.

Marvin "Essential" fiberglass windows are better performing and longer-lasting than vinyl windows, and are still very reasonably priced.

Can anyone recommend very secure basement windows against burglaries? Was looking for the woven steel mesh screen (meshtech?), but can't find them for sale in Massachusetts.

Regarding prices, many contractors are so busy they try to write themselves "lottery tickets" to clueless homeowners.. its pretty disgusting

I used these, though they were branded 'Integrity, by Marvin' at the time. Great value, however, they are nailing fin windows which require exterior trim removal (at minimum) ... not a 'retrofit' option like Anderson Renewal. They're also notable more expensive over 10+ windows than a contractor grade vinyl unit.

If I were to build new or replace windows again, I'd stick with Marvin Essentials. Good local dealer networks too.

Not clueless. They're in high demand right now, so they can write lofty quotes as the market demands it. As always, it's a terrible time to be anything other than high income. Me? I guess I'll deal with the exposed Typar and Zip tape until demand lessens or I cave and buy staging.
