I recently interviewed for a job in Waltham and it looks promising yet I know nothing about the Boston area. I've only driven up there twice, both for interviews and unfortunately didn't have much time to explore. I'm 28 years old and currently renting a 1 BR apt on the CT shoreline for $875 + utils. I'm looking to move to an area that is close to a lot of nice restaurants, pubs, and young professionals/students, but at the same time relatively affordable. I also prefer a commute within 20 minutes. I'm willing to spend up to $1,000 for a 1 or even 2 BR apartment. Does anybody have any ideas or recommendations, or is anybody in a similar situation?

Thanks!

You're in luck....lots of people live in Waltham itself for just those reason you mentioned. Check out the Moody St. area which has lots of restaurants/shops/etc (either in person or make extensive use of google street view!).

If you want a bit more separation between work and life, then Arlington Center area or parts of Newton might be a bit different, though both of those towns are probably more family-oriented than Waltham is.

yes, really, Moody Street in Waltham itself is exactly what you want. I have no idea what the rents are, however.
