We just relocated to the area and are looking for a reliable mechanic. We have an older car and need the kind of mechanic who will make appropriate recommendations to keep everything running smoothly--- but not inundate with recommendations for unnecessary repairs. Ideally Arlington, Belmont, Lexington, Winchester, Cambridge, Somerville. Anyone have a mechanic they can't live without?

What exactly is your car? Brand? Year? Mileage?

The guy we use is very honest and never pushes unnecessary repairs on you. Pretty much most of our friends go to him now. I should add that my husband is a musician (so are most of friends), so we know nothing about cars yet drive a lot, and cannot live without a reliable person who will not charge 1000 for an air filter
He's farther away though, Lynn / Saugus line, I don't know if you are willing to travel that far.

So far I've enjoyed working with Summer St. Autocare in Arlington Ma. It's a small independent shop. But they've been treating me right. I've only used them a couple of times, but feel comfortable recommending them. Also, for tires I'd definitely recommend Bruce's Tires in Arlington. Great guy, great service, etc...

What happened to zeedog11? The reason I asked for the particulars of their car is because some mechanics are better with domestic marque cars, and others are better with foreign marque cars. And some mechanics are happier working on late model cars than older ones. Also some garages are kinder to the owners of older high mileage cars than others.
