Hello,

I would like to know if anyone out there knows why this is.
When travelling in the left lane and approaching a stop light, the double yellow lines become multiple yellow lines that angle out making you move into the right lane and then angle back allowing you to move back into the left lane so you can make a left hand turn at the traffic light. Does anyone know the logic behind this because it escapes me?

Thanks,
bgg

I haven't seen this before, but my guess that it forces drives to realize that at the traffic light, only cars turning left should be in the left lane. I'm guessing that before the angled yellow lines, there were many cars in the left lane at the traffic light who planned to go straight instead.

I hate when sloppy drivers are in the wrong lanes at traffic lights and ignore the signs and white arrows painted on the pavement.

Sounds logical. however when there are predominately more cars going straight or taking a right (can only go left or right at the light) it can cause unnecessary backups. But then most cars going left just drive over those yellow lines anyway.
Some don't even look at those white arrows. At one intersection the two right lanes had arrows pointing right and I was in the left of those two lanes. After the turn and at the next light, a woman wanted to berate me for taking an illegal turn. No way to convice her that the arrow was painted on the road but my guess is she felt pretty foolish the next time she got to that intersection.
