Hi there,

Is there any part of Waltham that I should avoid like Framingham? I am moving to Boston and have been finding a lot of units in multifamily homes in Waltham near the Waltham station of Moody street that sound as a good deal, but needed to know if this neighborhood safe or not? I understand overall crime is low in Waltham, just needed to cross check though. Your feedback is appreciated.

I'd recommend having dinner in that area, and then walking around afterwards to see if you like the neighborhood. Some people like that area, others don't.

The area looks a little old and run down, but it's safe. I walked alone from Brandeis to that part of Waltham at all times of day and night as a single girl alone but never felt in danger. I'd probably avoid Felton Street but even that really isn't unsafe.

Not sure where Hope St is, but that whole central Waltham area around Moody St is completely safe streets interwoven with sketchy-looking blocks. Moody St itself is an interesting commercial street that's safe with some trendy eateries. And then there are expensive apartments like the Archstone where young professionals live. But if you go into certain side streets or even just a couple blocks off of Moody St, it can look a little sketchy although not necessarily unsafe.

Waltham has a lot of areas up north and away from the older central part, that are suburban and feel indistinguishable from Lexington or Belmont. There are very nice apartments up in that area, but those can be pricey.

True what Evergrn said about some of the side streets off Moody "looking" sketchy. That's because the areas just off Moody are older neighborhoods where the housing stock can be a bit faded in appearance due to age. Keeping in mind that no place is guaranteed to be 100 percent safe at all times, that area would generally be considered safe.
