I found an apartment listing for $1350 and love it but know I can not afford it can I negotiate and ask for $1200 ? Is that acceptable in the rental world?

Absolutely! Everything in real estate is negotiable, and why would rental price be any less negotiable than purchase price? I don't see many full-price offers these days... I would recommend asking, especially if you have great credit, excellent references and are going for at least a 12-month lease. Is it spelled out in the lease that the landlord takes care of seasonal things like mowing and/or shoveling. Perhaps you could offer to take care of these items for the rent reduction. Just a thought...A smart landlord knows that a good renter is worth $100 reduction in rent price.

definitely.

my landlord was asking $1200 and that we pay utilities (gas/electric) and weekly lawn mowing/fall & spring clean-ups.

we agreed to $1200 but we asked him to pay for lawn mowing, fall/spring clean-ups and on top of that, cable tv/telephone & internet. and we pay for gas/electric. cable tv/telephone & internet is easily over 100bucks already.

as long as you've good credit/references....i'm sure it's very negotiable.
