Does anyone have an idea what a house demo would cost in Newton and Needham? There are properties that come on to market with 1,200sq.ft. houses, sometimes with or without basements. I heard that permits and utilities would be around 6k. How about excavation and removal? As a separate cost, how much would oil tank add to that? asbestos ?

My only experience, ten years ago in Littleton, a 750 sq.ft. house was $10K for demo and removal. No basement, no oil tank.

Default house demo costs

Hi,
I was quoted $60k to demo a 2500 sq ft colonial w/basement on a 1/4 acre lot in Westwood. No idea how much more the oil tank costs.

That sounds closer to another word of mouth quote I heard from a friend - 75k. Yet a contractor I called last week estimated 12k for excavation/removal.

Default Demos

Hi,
I don't know how it could only be $12k-- dumpster fees are not cheap, and it would take a lot of dumpsters to cart away a house!
The contractor who works on our house has completely rebuilt pre-existing houses before (though I don't know if he had demo'ed them completely before rebuilding); he's a good guy-- email me via the group if you want his contact info.
