I am looking for a seafood market/clam shack somewhere in eastern MA/S NH where I could get ~15-20 lbs of steamers/clams and ~10 lobsters for a July 4th clambake. I would like to avoid supermarkets and get them from a seafood place. Please share any advice. Thanks.

Ipswich Fish Market - North Shore's home for Quality Seafood, Upscale Catering, Wedding Catering, Event Catering, Clambakes and more...

at 8 Hayward (sp?) St in Ipswich. I just called them and they said Sure, just come and get all you want. I think it's down the Main downtown St where the stores are, past the Gulf station.

Ipswich has the best clams anywhere.

Kyler's Catch in New Bedford is one of the best seafood markets in terms of sheer volume that I've been to in MA.

Although it's a bit smaller than Kyler (it's plenty big enough), the Fisherman's Market at Fleet Fisheries in New Bedford cuts out the middle man giving you the cheapest and freshest seafood around. Most markets get their food through auction. So even the "freshest" seafood has sat on a boat for upto a week, spent a day at auction and THEN been delivered to the "fresh" markets. Fleet takes a small portion of their catch (the rest goes to auction) and puts it on their shelves right at their warehouse (their boats dock outback). It's the freshest you'll find anywhere unless you go right to the docks yourself. It's well worth the drive no matter where you're coming from.

When we lived on the SS we always bought from Lobster Pot in Norwell or the Lobster Barn in Abington. Both are excellent.

For anyone on the Cape last weekend we bought lobsters from Salty Lou's in Sandwich. (they have a retail shop on 6a but also sell at numerous farmer's markets) Best lobsters we've had in years. 8/ 2 lb lobsters cost $130. They were so full of meat they were hard to crack. Steamers are great from Joe's on the canal. They have some type of cleaning process that results in very clean, almost sand free clams.
