The City itself says it in Western, MA
City of Springfield, MA Official web site: Home

You should call them up and tell them their wrong
when ever anyone from the hilltowns is going to Spfld it is said "going to the city" an it means Spfld not NY! then there are other references in the last year or so which I will not repeat as it has to do with the ethnic influx.

I personally have never considered Western MA as under-represented....as with many many other states....the info is there one just has to research where they are visiting or living to find out the information.
