We have moved to Hingham for 3 years from Australia. Where can I purchase second washer n dryer in good condition and reasonable price. Don't want to buy new as won't be able to take with us due to difference in voltage.

You could check on Craigslist. You'll often find a good deal (if there are any washers and dryers being sold) but you'll more than likely have to pick them up yourself.

Conversely, you could buy new machines and then, just prior to moving, sell them on Craigslist. I'm sure someone would love to grab a washer and dryer that are less than three years old.

ETA: In case you don't know, the website is http://www.craigslist.org/about/sites and then select the area of MA that's closest to where you are.

I was trying to get ride of a washing machine (harder than you'd think) a few years ago and someone told me Eagle Appliance in E Boston bought and sold used appliances. I ended up giving it to a co worker so never contacted them, but you may want to try and see what they say.

Sign up for freecycle in your area. You'd be amazed how many people give away appliances and other things if you can pick them up.

Second the freecycle idea. Many people are upgrading to front loading appliances.

Am I the only one who hates front-loading machines because (1) I find them smaller and (2) things fall on the floor during the washer-to-dryer transfer?

I thought I'd like mine. I was wrong.
