We will be relocating up to Boston and are looking at towns in the MetroWest area...can anyone tell me what the Mass turnpike is like (traffic, price wise. How is it in snowy weather?) going into Boston, say leaving b/t 6:30-7am? He'd be going to Copley Square. Thanks!

Leaving that early the traffic shouldn't be bad. If I drive from Natick at 6:30am I can be at Copley Square in less than 45 minutes. You can also take the Framingham/Worcester train line. MBTA.com > Official Website for Greater Boston's Public Transportation System.

6:30am he'll be fine, the pike isn't expensive just make sure he gets a fast lane unless he like lines at the tolls. I think there still free and you can get them at the registry (it think all of them) so you can do all that stuff when you switch over to MA. If parking isn't provided at his company take the train in. The Worcester/Fram line stops at Back Bay so that would be the smarter choice to begin with really.

yep definitely tell him to make sure he has parking first before he attempts to drive to work and the gets a ticket for parking on the street with no permit. All areas are not like this, but some are, im not sure if copley is an area where u would need one or not. But like the previous poster said there is always the train. i love that about this area

The train is his preference, but there will be days he may have to drive. He's hoping to negotiate parking at work (in Boston) so the main concern is finding parking at 6:30 in the morning on the "home" end of the train.

Thanks for all the info!

Parking at 6:30 should not be an issue. Driving into Boston gets bad around 7:30-8. I'm not sure how much the tall is, it's a little more than $1.25 one way (maybe 1.65). You could get an easy pass (instead of fast lane) if you go to the easy pass website, choose NY as your state, then put your MA mailing address. The actual device is free from easy pass, but you'd have to pay for fast lane (which is the MA "easy pass").

Coming back home in the evening is hit or miss in terms of traffic.... it can be slow by 4:30 to 5 all the way to 7:30 pm. Gets backed up after Newton.

We have an EZ Pass (it's purple) here in MD and I think we used it last time we were up there...I'll have to see if they take the same kind!

I'm sure you can use it.... I used the EZ Pass from NH before. However, you don't get the discount that comes with the MA one (25 cents lower at the Weston and Allston tolls).
