Hello
we have the LL from hell and decided to move out because of that, plus some other apartment-related issues. Anyway, we are paying rent on 2 places for the month of Oct so we'll be moving our stuff slowly over the course of October, but probably we'll be out of the old place by mid-Oct. However, we are paying rent until the end of Oct. My LL wants to paint to fix some peeling paint after we move out, during the mo of Oct. It doesn't seem fair to me that he wants to paint while I am still paying rent and technically still being a tenant. If it were a nice LL maybe I wouldn't mind, but in this case I don't want him to fix his apartment for the new tenants while I am still paying rent. I know LL is allowed entry to make repairs, but isn't this referring to repairs that he would have made anyway even if I were still living in the house, like a dripping faucet? The paint has been peeling for at least 2 years and he hasn't fixed it for all this time.

Maybe you can negotiate with him that if he give you back some $ for the final 2 weeks of October if you agree to be out by the 15th so he can paint the apartment. Send him a letter or email with the request and see what happens. If you can get a few bucks back, great if not, just let it go, move on and be happy and know that karma is a ***** and it will catch up with him.

pick your battles - you are moving out and he's painting. BFD.

You chose to pay rent for 2 places - but he's not inconveniencing you since the apt will be empty.

If you're not living there - what harm is he doing? Let it go. There are bigger issues to deal with in life than your grudge against the LL.
