Is there a "bad" or "less than desirable" reputation about East Dedham? I have heard other people say avoid this area, but don't know for what reason. Anyone here know why - for example, Is there a safety problem there?

There are some nice houses listed for sale in the Washington / Grove / Bussey St area (Not on these major streets but on the side streets). Wondering if I should just forget-about-it.

Im sure there are nice houses but its not really that good of an area. Try norwood or walpole good areas and there close to dedham.

Wow, that was quick... Thanks Steve.

West Roxbury is on my list to keep an eye on. E. Dedham is really only a few blocks over (the other side of Washington).

I'm concerned about safety for sure. I don't need to care so much schools but they are an indicator of town quality nonetheless.

East Dedham is not considered the nicest part of Dedham by many. The houses there don't have the resale value of other parts of town. I think that is probably due to the amount of rental properties, the two housing projects located in East Dedham and the proximity to Boston. I wouldn't think you would be "unsafe" in East Dedham. I would not want to live there though. I grew up in Dedham and still work in Dedham so I'm very familiar with the town.

I can only speak for 15 years ago, but it wasn't like it was a "bad area". On the gritty side, and not the most attractive. Unsafe, no way. The area is very accessible to everything. I know that the mall area has been cleaned up quite a bit. Maybe it has gone downhill since?
