Springfield is far from a "Modern American City" it's old, outdated and dirty.Sorry but for a city of only 153,000 it's crime rate is way higher than it should be. I walk the streets of downtown Phoenix, which BTW is a "Modern Day City", all the time. For a city that has 10 x's the amount of people I feel a lot safer there than in Springfield. Drive through Springfield during the day and it's sickening to see what's become of the city.I guess teens pushing baby carrriages is your idea of an "Upswing".
Pheonix has a higher crime rate than Springfield, it has more abductions per capita than any city in America

The only thing old and outdated is this ridiculously bitter and unrealistic view of the city.

Try again, with objective arguments this time. As stated, your reference of Phoenix is literally laughable and proof that you just pulled all this outta nowhere.

That's was my point. Phoenix is 10 times larger than Springfield so I'd hope their crime rate is higher than Springfield. Pretty sad that I'd rather walk around there than here and feel a whole lot safer! Yes this is just my own personal opinion. YMMV

Well after 47 years I think I've seen what the city has transpired into. A welfare infested cesspool of druggies and low lives who are pushing out the remaining middle class. The bad areas far outweigh the good ones now.Take a good look at the South End,this use to be a nice Italian area. It's got so bad they drove them out! Again, why do you think MacDuffie School left after over 100 years there. So maybe you should open your eyes and realize that things aren't as glorious as you wish to perceive them. They're actually trying to stuff a casino on Page Blvd. along with the Biomass plant ,like that should do wonders for the residents all around there.

Oh...Here's another prize resident of Springfield.....

Regardless of what you "see" I guarantee you that there were druggies in lowlives in Springfield 47 years ago as well.

Also, you're wrong, Phoenix has more crime PER CAPITA. Don't let ignorance deceive you.

So yeah, like I said, radicals and bigots don't really care for Springfield MA, big whoop. I don't really particularly care for the ridiculous opinions of these people, and nobody else should either. In fact I think I'd rather live next to the lowlife, because I'm pretty sure a crackhead has no arrogant delusions that his ignorance is bliss.

I'm happy I got out of Springfield once I graduated college. The trend is that once people move to Springfield (for which ever reason) they NEVER leave. I have a friend who came from an affluent northern new jersey town to go to school in Springfield. She ended up living in the worst part of the city and eventually got knocked up by a drug dealer 29 year old bum that still lives with his mother.

Don't get me wrong, there are a bunch of hard working people in the city, but once they leave work they drive back to their homes in Agawam, Longmeadow, etc. The city has nothing for youth/ young adults . They only have the movies, and clubs and bars on worthington. Not much of a young professional hip scene.

That city changes you. Something about it is just so ghost townish.
