how much do you guys pay for health insurance per month? please include how many people in the family, wheter if it includes dental, vision, etc.

Im thinking about a possible move back to MA, but i heard health insurance is a law, and its not too cheap.

Yes the Mass. Health Connector website can provide you with quotes specific to your family. Even when it's not open enrollment you can pull up pricing. It is a pretty user friendly website in my experience.

wow never knew it can be that expensive. looks like if a family of 4 were to live in ma and buy a decent house, they need to make 100k combined to at least have a decent live.

are health insurance killing you guys?

I won't argue with you on needing to make $100k plus here. We make more than that and still feel pretty squeezed. My wife and I love the area, but it really is super expensive on so many fronts. Health insurance is one of them, though I will say that many of the plans available in Mass. seem to be better than what is prevalent in other states (based on my experience in the healthcare field). While we do pay more, our plans tend to be more comprehensive. Of course, this isn't always true, as health plans can vary quite a bit.

Employer sponsored. monthly premium is around $50, the rest picked up by company. That's the way to go. As soon as I don't work, no reason to stick around MA.

Keep in mind the rates on the Health Connector are the full premium, without any employer contribution. If you find a job with health insurance benefits, they will probably cover a chunk of the premiums. If you're self-employed, no such luck.

No, the insurance costs are not the problem here. The cost of housing is the real culprit.

I make half of $100k and I live here just fine. I support my house hold, too - and am going to be purchasing a home next year. It CAN be done.

But to answer your question - my employer breakdown is 60/40. (they pay 60% of the premium)

Starting 1/1/2012

HMO Blue Family
(2 adults, 1 child)

$310/bi weekly
