Offered free transportation on large bus to NYC but we can only go for the day. Is it worth going just for the day and wouldn't it be tiring not having a place to relax for awhile?

If you have never been to NYC before (or even if you have) there is a lot of things to see leisurely without wearing yourself out

We used to take the train from Providence to Penn Station a few times a year to do shopping and sight seeing. Pick a few things to see and have a nice lunch and sleep on the trip back. Lots to see this time of year around the holidays. Good luck and have fun

From Boston? It's at least a 4 hour ride on the bus each way, so that's going to eat up a large chunk of your day. If you left early in the morning and came back at night (sleeping on the bus), I guess it could be a fun adventure. You'd probably have to focus on a particular area of the city, though. Most of the buses will drop you off somewhere in Midtown, which is convenient for visiting Times Square, Rockefeller Center, the Empire State Building, etc. NYC is very nice at Christmastime.

I've gone down to NYC for the day many times via the buses. I usually try to leave Boston by 7am then head back by 8 or 9. It's a long day, but well worth it IMO.

I'm of the mind even a minute in NYC is worth the hassle. On a day trip I say just stroll around and stop where interests you. Very leisurely and you don't have to keep pace in order to see sites. If you must chose a site, I recommend the J.P Morgan library, great place. W

Come ride Staten Island Ferry (free), walk over Brooklyn Bridge, have a meal in SoHo, have drink in Times square. BTW, bring camera.

I used to drive down, pay to park the car, and go to one or two theater shows (usually off-off Broadway) and get a good dinner, and drive back overnight.
