Hey guys I was thinking of taking a day trip up to Martha's Vineyard with a few friends but I was wondering how much it was to take the car to the island (I've been there once without a car but it was a hassle walking everywhere and we had a few rude bus drivers)? The site for the ferry did not tell me any fares.

And what is there for teenagers (college age kids) in Boston ? And how is Boston compared to NYC in terms of parking/ driving/ attitude of drivers?

I went a few times to MV last summer. I want to say I was charged around $100 each way for my car. It might be a little more or a little less I can't recall the exact amount. It seems the Steamship Authority has not come up with their 2012 rates yet so there's nothing on their website:

One thing I would say is that I would book your vehicle passage ASAP. Ferry's often book up quickly especially popular weekends like 4th of July, Memorial Day, and Labor Day. I'm not sure when public booking opens up (island homeowners get to book earlier than the public). I would call the SA to find out. They can probably give you an idea of the fare as well.

I don't remember the cost, but for a day trip it was expensive and not worth it to me. When I went over with my husband we took our bikes with us. Bike rentals are available on the island as well as mopeds.

For a day trip its not really worth it. Usually when I go it's for 5 days or so. Then it's worth it. Luckily I have relatives with homes on MV so it makes it much more affordable for me.
