Platinumtel is the cheapest in the USA. 2 cents for a text 5 cents a minute for talk 10 cents per megabyte. They have a $50 free airtime with the purchase of a $69 phone. Hard to beat that.

5 cents a minute = $3.00 per hour. Boost Mobile's $2.00 per day unlimited plan beats that.

ten cents per megabyte = $102.40 per gigabyte. That's crazy.

I'm Canadian and traveling to Boston next week on April 19/13. I am completely fed up with the astronomical roaming fees I pay for use of my Canadian cell phone when I travel to the US. My thought is to buy a pay-as-you go phone and use it on my US trips. Any suggestions on which carrier I should use and where I can buy it on Boston? Maybe in the Boston airport?

We live in the suburbs but have been happy with an AT&T Go Phone, one for my husband who rarely uses his phone, and the other for our teenage son who texts more than he talks.

We pay $25 a quarter, which gives 10 cent a minute calls, and then we pay $5 a month for 200 texts or sometimes $10 a month for 1000 texts. The unused amounts rollover so it's good for my husband who has lots of minutes built up and good for my son who can carry over unused texts allowing us just to pay $5 a month for texts. There are other plans as well.

The phone they have is the smart phone version, which was about $50. The battery on their phones last much longer than my contract phone from another carrier, so I am thinking of switching to what they have.
