Hopkinton is lovely, but you won't get the house for the dollar that you're looking for. Check out Shrewsbury and Grafton.

Default Happy to Help with your Move Questions

Hi, I am a local and can assist you with any questions you may have about Hopkinton, Holliston, Medway, Upton ect... although I see one answer was very informative. I work in Franklin and surrounding areas and I am a MA native.. Who BTW lived in Florida for 4 Years too!

Here is my wish list:

1. Decent drive time to Hopkinton (under 30 minutes).
2. Good schools (my son will be in kindergarten soon).
3. Lower taxes (are they really that bad???).
4. Newer homes available (under 10 years old).
5. Nice homes available for up to $450,000 (whew...this is a big stretch from Florida!).

I am also scared about the winters. I am a native Californian so I have only been in the snow once in my lifetime

Anyway...if anyone can help shed some light, it would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Default Northborough is a better value...

Good schools, 15 minute commute, a more diverse housing stock.

I really think your search should start in Hopkinton point blank before you start considering towns 20-25 minutes away.

Thanks again for all of the replies. I would love Hopkinton, but it may be almost impossible to find a newer home in our price range.

I know a lot of people love the "charm and character" of an older home. However, I like newer homes...it's just what I am used to.

I think we are going to rent a house for a while to be able to take out time getting to know the different areas and to find the perfect house for us.

I really can't wait to get to know my new community!

I live in Ashland, about 1 minute from Hopkinton. I love Ashland in our particular neighborhood on the Hopkinton/Southborough side of Ashland. I have been really happy with the school systems. If I were moving here for the first time and not so established in our neighborhood, I would pick Hopkinton, Southborough, Holliston or Upton, in that order. I wouldn't want to live in Gardner, Northborough or Milford. The don't have as much to offer or are too out in the middle of nowhere for me. Although Franklin is a nice town, there are choices just as good or better that are closer to Hopkinton.

Good Luck!!

By the way, you could get a newer home on the Hopkinton side of Ashland for about $500 if you can stretch that far. Homes in our neighborhood are 12 years old and go from 425-650 depending on the model size. Good Luck!!
