Hello,
I am planning to buy a house in Northborough, MA and I work at Salem, NH.
I know the commute is really long...but i planned to work 3 days from office.

Any suggestions how is the commute from Northborough, MA to Salem, NH. Let me know if there is public transportation available...any thoughts/suggestion will be appreciated...

No public and no real obvious highway way to go. I think it sounds pretty undoable, especially in bad weather. Sorry. Maybe someone else has an idea.

The commute will be on the long side but you shouldn't hit too much traffic. Nevertheless, it begs the question, "Why?!" Even three days a week, it will wear on you. Unless you're planning for the near future when your job will move to that area, I can see little reason to go all in and buy. Even if you want to live on the Boston side of Salem and don't care for NH, there are numerous options in the North Shore.

No transporation available. You would be better off living closer to the Merrimack Valley, or even farther north up 495 towards the Littleton/Westford area.

You would go up 495 but the commute would be long....one option, start looking for a new job or look in a different area.

I commute from Natick, MA to Londonderry, NH. Not quite the same since I travel up 128 instead of 495, but it is honestly not bad at all. I also only go three days a week and it makes a huge difference in my sanity. It is nice knowing most days that I don't have to do the drive again the next day.

It's 50 miles each way, but I assume you already know that. It's a very easy drive. There will be some traffic congestion around route 3 and again at the route 93 interchange but it's typically pretty minor. The bridge replacement work in the Lowell to Tewksbury stretch is all done now, that was causing issues during peak travel times.

Northborough is a nice town but what's the compelling reason to buy a house there versus any of the communities that would be closer to your work?

I don't understand the reason for choosing Northborough? Does your spouse / significant other work elsewhere and hence you are buying there?

If not, I would seriously consider moving further up the 495 corridor if I were you.
