I would be commuting by MBTA (First time) to cambridge from Lowell to visit MIT. What should be the easiest way to travel since I don't have a car.

MBTA.com > Commuter Rail Maps and Schedules
Above I posted the purple line/commuter line for the T. This will take you from Lowel right to MIT. I do not know the current price for the monthly ride anywhere/anytime pass, but it is well worth it as you can get around quite a bit for that. I recomend that type of omni pass as it will take you from the commuter lines, colored train lines and the busses/trolleys as well.

Contrats and welcome to the area

Thanks for the response, Bob. I looked at the link. But, I couldn't find Cambridge. Am I ... missing something?

The purple commuter line intersects the red line subway at Porter Square, which is Cambridge north of Harvard Square. The Red line runs four stops to Kendall Square in Cambridge, which is near MIT. You could also take the Red line three stops (from Porter) to Central Square, which is an easy walk to much of MIT.
Best wishes, and I hope MIT is everything you could wish for!

The only commuter line that stops at Porter Square is the Fitchburg Line. If you're coming from Lowell, you'll end in North Station.
