nice house would be like our current house in Tampa FL:
2,000 sqft
3 bd/2 br
central a/c
2 car garage
built in 2003.

also I'd love to hear comments about Franklin compared to Foxboro and Norton.

You will not find that in those towns at that price.

You can find that for $350-$400K in North Attleboro, $400-$450K in Franklin.

My husband and I were considering Wareham at one point (we don't have kids so the school system rating is lower on our totem pole). My family had a summer cottage there, and I have many fond memories of the area. However, it's a bit "removed" distance-wise from the main population centers. Rte. 25 is the only major thoroughfare to get in/out of town -- otherwise you have to endure the traffic on Rte. 28 and drive across Buzzards Bay and Bourne before hitting Rte. 3 OR take back roads to Rte. 3. In the summer it can be a 2-hour drive, according to a friend who lives down that way. The was the primary reason why we decided against it.

NICE HOUSE FOR US:
1800-2100 sqft
3 bedroom/2-2.5 bathroom
central air/heat
attached2 car garage
built between 1980- this year (2012)
nice front/backyard.
lots of light( windows). coming from the sunshine state it would deres us to be in the dark for too long.
hope that gives an idea.
I've found a few homes in Norton,Mansfield and another couple of areas with that description but around 300k, that's double of the current cost of my house in Florida (of course FL has been hit hard by the real state crisis)
guess my questions, why massachusetts does not have better prices if all the country has been affected in similar way (at leAST i'VE BEEN TOLD SO)

All the country has NOT been affected in a similar way. Massachusetts has always been more expensive than Florida.

I agree. How the real estate climate has effected property values has varied quite a bit from state-to-state and from town-to-town as well. In some cases, in a single town different price ranges have been effected differently.

Default and our pick is...........

we finally took a 10 day trip to Mamsfield and visited all the area thoroughlly, we found a nice (but quit expensive) apartment for rent in Mansfield, overall we picked the town because it combines a small town atmosphere with the convenience of being close to shopping/dinning places and an outstanding school system, town is just minutes away from the gillette stadium, comcast center, wrentham outlet, etc, so it won't be a 45 minute drive to go to a decent mall or eat some out with the family. a town that I found also ver nice was Sharon, quite close to Mansfield but a lovely clean and nice quit llittle downtown (mansfield downtown needs a little uplift but it's okay) Sharon schools are brand new! (they are good too).
as for the rest we didn't find much difference, Franklin disappointed me a little, North Attleboro too noisy and congested, not many nice/new apartment complex options to select from.
Overall we had a nice experience with the towns in the area , execpt for some rude waitresses at a diner in Mansfield that didn't seem to be kind at all with out of town people (or they just had a bad day)

our only fear now is how to survive the winter without feeling depressed for not being outdoors that is the beauty of Florida we will always miss!
