Plymouth, MA. What can you tell me about it? (Other than that's where the pilgrims landed) :roll eyes:.

Moving to MA in Aug/Sept. and scouting the best areas to live. I'll be working most likely in Plymouth, but will need to get to Dover, MA. throughout the week as well. I'm in my late 20's/single/female/white.

It is quite the drive from Plymouth to Dover. It can be quite daunting.

Plymouth has nice areas. It has lower real estate taxes then many of the towns to the north of it. People from Plymouth will complain about the rapid development(#5 exit) and the increasing property tax bills. Apartment rentals seem cheap in comparison to the Cape or Norwell when I have reviewed ads.

One of the more popular places for people, today, seems to be the East Bay Grille. I know a few that drive quite a bit to reach it. It is on the water in Plymouth.

Ewww, I don't even like thinking about this. No matter which way you'd go -- either up Rte. 3 then cutting over to 128 (the long way but probably the most direct route) or maybe Rte. 44 to 24 and then secondary roads...you're talking one hour minimum, probably closer to 1-1/2 hours, maybe 2, depending on when you leave Plymouth and the traffic situation. I wouldn't do it, but that's me.

Plymouth is a bargain compared to other towns in the area. It's spread out, and housing runs the gamut from upscale developments like the Pinehills to rustic cottages with propane heat. There's been a lot of development in recent years, which of course has driven up the property tax. There are a few what I'd call "sketchy" areas, but for the most part it's family friendly. North Plymouth is the site of the Mayflower replica, and it's a very kitschy tourist destination during the summer. During the winter it gets very, very quiet.

I've eaten there a few times. The views cannot be beat!

I lived in Houston, Texas most of my life, so anything around an hour commute doesn't really bother me.

Thanks for the info!

You'll like Plymouth. We lived there (we actually still own our home there). Its a good place for someone single (as well as families). Look into an apt downtown. Lots of things to do..many other coastal towns (other than Boston) you may feel are very family orientated but Plymouth has a great mix. Yes, taxes are probably a bit lower but looking at my recent tax bill of almost $9,000, I don't feel that way!

It's big...it's pretty much the size of LA but it isn't a city. Because of that sometimes you really have to be more specific about what part. I know some that live in southern parts that they have to go though wareham to get to. Meanwhile there's a fair amount of economic activity in the northern part. The downtown is nice it has some shops and bars. The 4th of july fireworks is a big thing but traffic can be a pain coming out of it. The new rt 44 makes some traveling a bit easier and there's a ton more shops near exit 9
