Winchester has an excellent school system, and great downtown area.

sixmasons, what impressions did you come away with from your visit?

I can't comment on USTA tennis (one of my employees who lived in Maynard and now lives in Lincoln plays USTA tennis, I believe). Concord, Lexington and Bedford are good towns for HS tennis. I think Concord-Carlisle has been state tennis champions a few times in recent years. Newton would be a painful commute (good HS tennis teams also). Any town that would require a commute on I-95 or I-93 would be painful (Newton or Wellesley, for example).

Of these towns, Lexington will likely have the greatest ethnic diversity, I'd guess, though that comes mostly from Asians. I doubt you'd love the schools in Arlington relative to the other towns on your list. It would be a reverse commute, so the commuting probably wouldn't be that bad. Another possible town is Andover.

Concord has two town centers -- West Concord and Concord Center. The first is more utilitarian and family-oriented and the second is more upscale/tourist oriented. Both are very nice but are smaller than Lexington or Winchester Centers. You can live nicely in either.

With regard to cycling, Concord is a center for cycling. On Saturday morning, many cyclists (a hundred or hundreds over the course of a day) gather in Concord Center and you can go North, West, South and even East (though less likely to be good) and have fabulous rides. We cycle in this area all of the time. It is road biking paradise. You can head out to Stowe, Harvard, Boxborough, Acton, Weston, Sudbury, Carlisle, Westford, Wayland, ... .
