Hi there,
My husband and I currently live in Arlington and we have found we both do not like the city life. Maynard has come up on our radar...we found a place ( possibly ) on Summer street. It looks like a main street... is it a busy one??
Thanks much!
Kim

You should really visit Maynard in person. Drive around the town, walk around the center. Hang out and have dinner at one of the casual restaurants and just people watch. And in visiting Maynard in person, you can also decide if you might like living out that way and can deal with the daily commute to work.

I think that only you and your husband can know if Maynard is for you.

I live on Summer Street in Maynard!

It is a busy street but it changes in character from one end to the other. It runs through downtown past the firehouse, Walgreens, and movie theater and those sections are busy, but because of the lights the traffic is usually slow. The handful of houses on that section are small but cute.

It then runs uphill past the ArtSpace galleries in the old middle school and then becomes completely residential and tree-lined but with a sidewalk. The traffic speeds become a little higher than we would like at that point, but the street is really lovely -- a mix of mostly colonials and Victorians on big lots and several old farmhouses that still have barns. It is an easy walk to downtown from most of Summer Street and is in probably the nicest part of Maynard.

There is a fair amount of traffic during the rush hours, which slows a bit in the middle of the day. Not much to speak of at night and the only trucks are small ones making local deliveries--we do not get the truck traffic on Summer Street that they get over on Great Road.

My husband and I moved here from Arlington 14 years ago and very much miss city life! Wanna trade? ;--)
