I-93N to Stoneham. What exits off the highway arn't backed up? (Boston: home)

Hi All,

Coming home from work i take I-93N through Boston and into Stoneham getting off at exit 36. I was wondering if there were any exits before this that would be practical to take? The worst traffic tends to be after the zakem bridge and route 1 exit (#27) until nearly my exit. Should I try taking 28N/Fellsway W? what about roads that cut through the Melrose area, like Main st?

Do these roads just get piled up with traffic and I should stick to the highway or is there a faster way through that I should be trying.
