My son is graduating from high school in Shrewsbury in May, and my husband and I want to visit for about a week. We would like to rent a beach house, but are not familiar with the area at all. I tried searching for Boston beach houses but quickly learned we probably won't find a Boston beach house. Can you please help me with the closest beach area? We may end up staying more inland, but would like to at least try to find something on the ocean. Thanks!

Most of your beach options are 1 - 1.5 hours from Shrewsbury. One more place that wasn't mentioned is the CT Shore.

Westport, MA. IMHO, one of the most underrated beach towns in New England. Horseneck Beach is fairly popular (and quite nice), but it's far from the best beach in Westport. Many (most, even) vacation rentals include a beach pass to private beaches like Elephant Rock, Bakers Beach, Cherry and Webb (town beach), or Howland Beach. East Beach and Gooseberry are also great public beaches.

Check for rentals either in "The Point" (Westport Point) or the Acoaxet section of town (a real hidden gem on the West side of Westport harbor- Howland and Elephant Rock beaches are here).

VRBO and Homeaway have a lot of rentals in Westport.

Also consider Little Compton, RI which borders Westport and is also a real gem.
